Yardie, who are we ?
The earliest recorded lease of Yardie Creek Station was in March of 1889
The working sheep station was resumed by the Government in December of 1969
Most of the original Yardie Creek Station lease is now National Park
Respecting the Environment
Yardie Homestead Caravan Park is committed to having the smallest carbon footprint possible, and still improving.
We have a hybrid power station, implementing solar energy.
Please note that because we do operate off generators, some power restrictions do apply.
All fresh water supplied to the caravan park is produced by reverse-osmosis desalination.
And it tastes really good !
A poem about Yardie written by one of our beloved regulars : Terry Scorer
Happy HourAs shadows lengthen and the sun nears the westThe grey nomads congregate in the circle they like best. They carry drinks of choice and something light to eatSome is often passed to the dogs at their feet. They sit in groups of four or maybe moreAll surround the tables with ‘nibbles’ galoreThe chairs creak and groan as old tired bodies settle downTime to talk about anything from the stars to the crownThey have come from backgrounds so very diverseFarmer, teacher, engineer and of course there is always a nurse.Others have been tradies so as you can seeTheir collective knowledge is vast and given out free. You can see in some, patience and sadness in their tired knowing eyesThey have seen plenty of life and find little to surprise. This is covered up with laughter and many funny jokesIt lifts the spirits of these battle scarred folks. The topics of the day always vary a lotWhere are the fish biting ? And who has caught what ?The wind is cursed by most nearly all the timeBut let it drop out and the weather can be divine.Snorklers come out and swimmers maybe manySpotted bathers are out but some we know don’t wear any.Toilets seem to end up in the conversation somewhereWith taps always dripping and little hot water to spareAs darkness falls it is finally time to move alongAnd leave the circle of friendship that has grown so strong.Tomorrow may bring challenges that they will have to faceBefore they can relax once again in this friendly place.
